The Features Tab: Static Maps & Map Sequences

Static Maps and Map Sequences are two different ways to look at non-interactive maps. Static Maps are map images that can be viewed by a user, while Map Sequences are a set of multiple related maps or related images that the user can browse to get information about a certain topic. In general, Static Maps and Map Sequences help users find printable maps of West Virginia.

Using Static Maps

Once on the e-WV Web site, navigate to the Features tab; Static Maps & Map Sequences will be displayed as an option under the “Interactive Maps & Timelines” heading. Upon clicking this link, the user will be directed to the “Static Maps and Map Sequences” page. From this page, the user can click the View All Static Maps link to view all the Static Maps on the e-WV Web site, or click the title of a Static Map to be directed to the informational page about that map (users can print the map image from the informational page).

Using Map Sequences

Once on the e-WV Public Web site, navigate to the Features tab; Static Maps & Map Sequences will be displayed as an option under the “Interactive Maps & Timelines” heading. Upon clicking this link, the user will be directed to the “Static Maps and Map Sequences” page. From this page, the user can click View All Map Sequences to get a list of all the map sequences on the e-WV Web site, or they can click on the title of a sequence to begin previewing the images and their associated text.

When previewing a Map Sequence, the user will see a horizontal list of thumbnail images. Each image in the list is an image included in the Map Sequence, and by clicking on a thumbnail the user will see the page reload with the thumbnail image becoming the main image on the page and its associated text displayed either on the left or underneath the image. By clicking on the larger or main image on the page, a popup will be displayed of the image allowing the user to select Full Details. Viewing the details of the image will take the user to the informational page they would see for a Static Map—allowing the user to get more information about the image and to print it.
