A settlement known as "Potomoke," possible Shepherdstown, is one of first possible settlements in West Virginia

Earliest recorded settlement by Morgan Morgan near Bunker Hill in present Berkeley County; Morgan Morgan is later credited as the first white settler in present West Virginia

Expansive grants given to Ohio, Greenbrier and Loyal companies
1751
John and Andrew Lewis discovered Marlin and Sewell living in present Pocahontas County during their survey
1753
Robert Files and David Tygart families first settled Beverly
1755
Indians attacked the Greenbrier settlements killing and capturing 24 colonists
1758
Families returned to the area after French defeated in upper Ohio Valley
1764
John Simpson settled on the West Fork River.
1768
The Treaties of Hard Labor and Fort Stanwix were signed with the Cherokee and Iroquois
1769
Colonists began returning to the Greenbrier Valley.

Col. George Washington and Dr. James Craik claimed land in the Ohio watershed on their canoe trip

The Tygart Valley was resettled

People settled in Monongalia County and Pennsylvania after the Revolutionary War
