Caption: Shovelnose sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus platorynchus): The shovelnose sturgeon lives in many of the larger rivers of the Mississippi and Ohio River basin. It was eliminated from West Virginia because of poor water quality. Currently, the Division of Natural Resources is conducting a restoration effort for the shovelnose sturgeon in the Kanawha River.
