Young John F. Morgan was hanged on Dec. 16, 1897 for the triple murder of Jackson County’s Pfost-Greene family. Citing the “carnival” atmosphere among the crowd of 5,000, public executions would soon be banned by the WV Legislature. The historic Alpine Theatre, 210 W.
