Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College

Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College serves six counties of the Potomac Highlands and Eastern Panhandle from its headquarters located in Moorefield. ‘‘Eastern,’’ as it is often called, was founded in 1999. It is a coeducational, state-supported, public college, and one of West Virginia’s youngest institutions of higher learning.

Operating under its ‘‘Education That Works’’ motto, Eastern offers workforce education and a variety of educational certificate programs, as well as two-year associate degrees. The college also provides career education and continuing education. Eastern offers classroom education as well as distance learning courses, providing access centers at high schools and other locations throughout its service area.

Eastern was among the fastest-growing community colleges in West Virginia in the early 21st century. It serves mostly non-traditional students, the majority of whom are enrolled for part-time study. Initially accredited as a branch of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, Eastern earned separate accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 2008. In fall 2022, the total enrollment was 376, a nearly two-third decline from the previous decade.
