One of West Virginia finest coaches. During his tenure at USC, he accepted an offer from Paul “Bear” Bryant to play Alabama in 1971. The game is herald as the “Game” that brought the end of segregation to the Southeast Athletic Conference. As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach he recruit Doug Williams as the first starting African American Quarterback in the NFL. Eventually, Coach McKay’s assistant coach Joe Gibbs at the Washington Redskins picked up Doug Williams from the Canadian Football League during the 1987 season. Williams went on to lead the Redskins to a Superbowl XXII victory becoming the first African American Quarterback to win a Superbowl.
