Eventually, Coach McKay’s assistant coach Joe Gibbs at the Washington Redskins picked up Doug Williams from the Canadian Football League during the 1987 season. Williams went on to lead the Redskins to a Superbowl XXII victory becoming the first African American Quarterback to win a Superbowl.
