I am a descendant of Andrew Culbertson Jr. and Esther Arbuckle who settled in Rockbridge Virginia and later moved to an area called Culbertson’s Bottom on the New River between the Greenbrier and Cowpasture rivers. Our family history tells that Andrew was responsible for the construction of the Fort. At any rate, I wonder what recorded history says about how the Fort came to be called Fort Culbertson. Any insight into the matter would be appreciated.
