There were two covered bridges that crossed the Mud River near Milton in the 1800’s. The first was located southeast of Milton on the JR&K Turnpike near Union Baptist Church. It was used during the Civil War and into the 20th century but was was destroyed when a new concrete span was built beside it. The second, more well-known covered bridge was built post-Civil War, in the 1870’s, crossing the Mud River west of Milton near the site of the original Milton (Grant District) High School. This is the bridge referenced in this article as having been restored and placed in the Pumpkin Park near Blenko Glass.
