"Frances Benjamin Johnston: West Virginia Icon" Exhibit

The “Frances Benjamin Johnston: West Virginia Icon” exhibit is about Grafton native Frances Benjamin Johnston, who was a self-made photographer in the late Victorian and early 20th century. While Johnston photographed celebrities such as Mark Twain and the Roosevelts, her most enduring legacy is her historic preservation work doing photographic surveys of the American South, funded by the Carnegie Corporation and administered by the Library of Congress.
Our exhibit consists of 26 enlarged photographs rarely seen outside the Library of Congress with explanatory captions. The exhibit can be displayed on the wall, easels or tabletops, along with some books of her photography including a first edition. The exhibit is free and open to the public; a web-based version is going live soon for those who cannot attend in person.

Tamarack Wine & Design

Come join us in creating a fun Pumpkin Patch painting inspired by the autumn season and Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Lynsi Boyd will lead you in step by step instruction that will help you create a fun painting no matter your skill level. All materials will be provided. No experience necessary. Painters are free to modify their paintings to suit their abilities and interests.
Each ticket includes one free drink, a complimentary commemorative stemless wine glass, hors d’oeuvres prepared by Tamarack’s incredible culinary team, and an entry to win a giveaway including $200 worth of Tamarack fall favorites! Tickets includes access to our cash bar for participants 21 and older. This event is available for all ages, but I.D. will be required and checked by our bartenders.
This outdoor event will take place on the Terrace of our Conference Center and tickets are limited to adhere to the highest safety standards. Seating at this event will be spaced according to the 6 ft guidelines set by the CDC and temperatures will be taken upon arrival. Masks will be worn by all staff and are required for those participating until seated to eat. Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the facility and all other necessary safety precautions will be taken.
Tamarack ensures a clean and safe environment for all to enjoy!

The publishing world has changed dramatically over the last few years. Independent publishing is now a business decision instead of a last-ditch option. Eric Douglas is a hybrid author, with books published by traditional publishers and an independent author. His talk will cover the pitfalls and pluses of being an indie and he will also talk about what to do when your book is “out there”. He will discuss marketing your books, staying “exclusive” or “going wide” and lessons he’s learned.

Creators Program- Return of Mothman webinar

Herbert Gardner and Calvin Grimm are the co-founders and co-directors of Vandalia FilmWorx Foundation, dedicated to telling West Virginia stories, filmed here in the state. They have just begun primary filming of their next feature length film based on the novel, “Return of the Mothman,” by Bram Stoker Award-winning author Michael Knost. The story is a suspense/horror drama. This marks a departure from earlier period piece (“River of Hope,” released 2/15/2020) and the crime documentary “Mountain of the Missing” now in post-production. They will address, anecdotally, the challenges of independent filmmaking in WV and the creative process.
