• Spooky Stories in St. Albans

  November 01, 2019 — Saint Albans, Kanawha

  Join us at Morgan’s Kitchen on Route 60 on November 1 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for some spooky stories (along with snacks and crafts). The event is geared for children through 5th grade. Come join us for an evening of fun!
• 49th Annual Memorial Fountain Ceremony

  November 14, 2019 — Marshall University, Cabell

  Each year on the anniversary of the Nov. 14, 1970, plane crash tragedy, the Student Government Association conducts a memorial service at the Memorial Fountain on the Memorial Student Center plaza.

  As is traditional, the water in the fountain is stopped during the service, to remain silent until spring.

  The Marshall University Student Government Association invites you to join us for the 49th Annual Memorial Fountain Ceremony at noon on Thursday, November 14, 2019 on the Memorial Student Center Plaza.

  The ceremony will be streamed live at https://livestream.com/marshallu for those who are not able to attend.
• 21st biennial West Virginia Juried Exhibition opening

  November 17, 2019 — Cha, Kanawha

  The 21st biennial West Virginia Juried Exhibition will open at the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex in Charleston on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m.; 101 West Virginia artists were selected for the exhibit, which will feature 131 pieces, including painting, drawing, mixed media, craft, photography, digital art, sculpture and print. Thirty-four counties are represented in the show.

  The exhibit opening reception and awards ceremony is free and open to the public. The exhibit will remain at the Culture Center until Feb. 18, 2020.

  At the opening reception, the department will announce the exhibition award winners. Governor’s Award winners will receive $5,000 for their work. Awards of Excellence winners will receive $2,000 for their work. These are purchase awards, and the art will become part of the West Virginia State Museum permanent contemporary art collection.

  Merit Awards of $500 each will also be presented that afternoon.

• Kelly Hunt featuring Stas' Heaney

  November 22, 2019 — Tamarack, Raleigh

  Up-and-coming Folk/Americana artist Kelly Hunt ventures East on tour with violinist Stas’ Heaney.

  Accompanied by her 1920s tenor banjo, Kelly Hunt’s songs blend traditions of folk, blues, classic country, and old-time music for a sound that is all her own. Her songwriting springs from a place of rich imagery and shows a genuine love of storytelling.

  Join us November 22 for a pre-show reception with Kelly Hunt at 5 p.m. The concert begins at 6 p.m.

• Pro and Con Wheeling Newspapers During the War

  November 25, 2019 — Wheeling, Ohio

  The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable is presenting a special lecture series this year to coincide with the Wheeling 250 observance.

  The roundtable’s series is exploring the theme of Wheeling During the Civil War. The programs are free and open to the public.

  Nine talks will be offered at 6:30 p.m. on specified Mondays in the auditorium of the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St.

  The roundtable’s regular meetings will be conducted after the lectures. The group will not meet in September or December.

  In addition to the lecture series, the Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable is organizing a special event on Memorial Day.

  The dates and topics for the lectures are as follows:

  • Nov. 25 — “Pro and Con Wheeling Newspapers During the War,” presented by Laker.

  The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable will hold a Memorial Day walk through Greenwood Cemetery, beginning at 9 a.m. May 27. Participants will mark the graves of veterans from both sides of the conflict.

• Downtown Charleston ArtWalk

  November 29, 2019 — Charleston, Kanawha

  With exciting and unique offerings around every corner, Downtown Charleston ArtWalk celebrates the arts on the third Thursday each month March through December, except in November and June when the event falls on Black Friday and the week of FestivALL, respectively. Specific 2019 dates are below.
